Coastal Living 10 Year Anniversary Adventure
Drum roll! ……We have just celebrated 10 years of Coastal Living! Our first property was launched in 2011 and we have since grown to over 50 properties in the South Hams. And wait till what’s in store for next year!
To commemorate the event we ALL had a SUP WALK Adventure!
The adventure planned was for 20 of us to paddle down the stunning river Avon from Aveton Gifford to Bigbury-On-Sea on a collection of paddle boards including two giant XL paddle boards! We timed it so we could paddle down on the outgoing tide. So on the eve of a full moon and a perfect balmy summer evening we had a hilarious experience trying to balance 8 people on an XL board as we paddled down the estuary. Simon, Mandy and their daughter Megs – a qualified RNLI beach lifeguard – gave us all the team building experience we could have wished for. From beginners, to experienced paddlers we all felt the buzz … we surprised ourselves, amazed at what we were capable of working as a team. Halfway through our journey we stopped off for refreshments. The setting was idyllic, at the Lime Kiln with incredible views of the estuary. A special mention goes to their son Bryn who made the best sausage rolls that went down well with a glass of fizz. When we reached Bantham beach the boards were tied together to make a giant raft. We all braved the open sea for our final leg to Bigbury.
Simon and Mandy, we cannot thank you enough! There are so many memories to take home, picking and sampling fresh samphire from the river bed, racing two XL paddle boards singing and giggling….then making a raft and pulling together chasing waves and surfing as one into shore.

Simon and Mandy have set up a family run business based in the heart of The South Hams.
Simon is a BSUPA qualified SUP Instructor and Tour Guide and has been guiding paddle board enthusiasts around the South Devon coast and waterways for ten years. Mandy is a Hill and Moor Leader with the British Mountaineering Council and a BSUPA SUP instructor. She has organised guided walks and adventures in the South Hams, Wales, Scotland and across Europe.

They kindly invited myself, Deborah, from Coastal Living, for a sunset Wilderness Paddle on the beautiful Kingsbridge estuary. We were blessed with a gentle breeze and glowing sunset – perfect conditions for a beginner like me! From start to finish, the whole experience was about building our paddle boarding ability and confidence on the water. As fully qualified paddle board instructors, Simon and Mandy’s long-standing knowledge and expertise about the estuary and supportive tuition created a safe, exhilarating experience. Although balancing a downward dog on the boards led by local yoga instructor Donna, “Simply Soulful Yoga” was beyond my balancing talents, local personal trainer Kat Wallace excelled at the challenge!
A thoroughly uplifting experience being out on the water, their knowledge of the area and love of the outdoors was infectious. We capped the trip off with a swim, tea and homemade scones on a secluded beach to watch the last of the sunset…..Sublime…Thank you guys I could not recommend their trips more highly. What a team!
