As we approach the middle of January it is a time to not only anticipate the joys of Spring but look at possible short breaks away to explore the South Hams on foot.
We are proud to say we have some incredible hiking routes and footpaths to explore. From coastal walks taking in breath taking views of the sea, to the wild rugged open spaces of Dartmoor. Country walks along our famous winding lanes and river walks along the estuaries and water ways.
We would love to welcome you and help you plan your accommodation for a memorable staycation to South Devon.
We have the famous South West Coast Path right on our doorstep. Recently made famous by the TV presenter Julia Bradbury. You can experience the magic for yourself.
It promises breathtaking views and takes you through historic landmarks like Dartmouth Castle and idyllic towns like Salcombe and Dartmouth.
A walk we would recommend is parking up at the Start Point Light House car park and walking the loop that takes you down to the rocky headland of Start Point Light House. As you step over the top, the wind whips up to greet you and it is exhilarating! We consider this view to be world class as you can literally see all of Start Bay.
The path winds down along the cliff to Mattiscombe bay where you can usually see seals and walk down to the sandy beach famous for it’s mushroom shaped rock.
Further around the coast another favourite hike we recommend is jumping on the ferry from Salcombe across the estuary to East Portlemouth. It is the perfect trek that loops through the woods and takes you around some of the most spectacular sea views from the coastal path. You can stop at Gara Rock hotel which is the perfect resting place to stop with a view for an excellent meal or coffee. Alternatively pack a great picnic to enjoy the beach at Millbay.
A property we highly recommend for exploring the South West Coast Path is Bowden Croft which is situated just one mile away from the beach at Street Gate. There are breathtaking views from outside your window and an idyllic retreat for avid walkers.
A stunning period property annexed to a Georgian Manor House. Set in picturesque Devon countryside with immaculate gardens and a tennis court. Stylish interior with traditional features.
Seaspray is a “little gem” close to the sea in the idyllic village of Stoke Fleming, near Dartmouth.
Ideal for a last minute getaway to the coast of South Devon. A two bed two bathroom escape which has private parking and within walking distance to the local pub The George and Dragon and popular restaurant at Radius 7.
We also, look forward to introducing you to our dog friendly properties. Devon is famous for it’s country walks and the South West Coast path. Yes dog heaven! Dartmoor is right on the door step and for the dogs who love the water we have many dog friendly beaches and estuary walks.
As a dog friendly property we would like to introduce Oakside. Situated just a 12 minute drive from Dartmoor National Park. Oakside is part of the main Manor House of The Colmer Estate, with traditional features.
Set in 28 acres of woods and fields with a heated indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, tennis court, fitness room and fishing lake.
